The Reentry Simulation - From Cell Block to City Block
The Reentry Simulation is a 2 hour event in which participants will receive a new identity - one of someone who has just been released from incarceration. You may not have a home, a job, money, ID/Birth Certificate/SS Card, etc. Participants must navigate through four, 15 minute "weeks" representing their first month back in the community following incarceration. This month's tasks include getting ID's, going to work/finding a job, paying bills, buying food, reporting to their Parole Officer, and more.
While a fun game, the Simulation is eye opening for those that work in the employment, education, housing, social services or criminal justice fields, as they undoubtedly encountering this population. Being mindful of the difficulties that this population faces as they are trying to get back on their feet and turn their lives around can make the difference they need to succeed.
