NATCHITOCHES - The Natchitoches Parish School Board's Central Office proudly wrapped up its canned food drive with the first-ever Chili Cook-Off, embracing this year's theme: "Stompin' Out Hunger." Throughout November, Central Office staff partnered with the Central Louisiana Food Bank to collect hundreds of non-perishable items to support local families in need. These generous donations helped restock the Cane River Food Pantry, bringing hope and relief to the community during the holiday season.
The Chili Cook-Off served as a festive celebration of the food drive's success, bringing NPSB Central Office staff together for an afternoon of friendly competition, fellowship, and fun. Participants showcased a wide range of recipes, from mild and savory to bold and spicy, making the event flavorful and memorable. Western-themed decor and attire added an extra layer of excitement and camaraderie.
A panel of local celebrity judges-Kathryn Beaudoin, Trini Triggs, and Darrell "Sweetie" Walker-sampled and scored each chili on taste, texture, and originality. Their participation added community pride and enthusiasm to the celebration. Winners received prizes, including a $50 gift card courtesy of Sweetie's Barbecue, and Central Office attendees cast ballots for a People's Choice winner.
Competition Results:
First Place - Janna Maggio, NPSB Early Childhood Coordinator
Second Place - Ryan Shirley - NPSB Maintenance Supervisor
Third Place - Shauna Hicks, NPSB Director of Child Nutrition
People's Choice - Shauna Hicks, NPSB Director of Child Nutrition
Event organizer Ramona Wynder, Interim Human Resources Director, shared that the event showcased the creativity, teamwork, and dedication that make NPSB such a special place to work and serve.
"Your kindness and involvement made this year's initiative a true success. We look forward to building on this tradition next year as we continue to make a difference - one can, one bowl of chili, and one act of service at a time," Wynder said.
This combined effort demonstrated the district's strong commitment to service, unity, and supporting one another both inside our buildings and across the community we proudly serve.
